Golf at Donegal (Murvagh) Golf Course

Travel time is approx. 10 mins

The Murvagh peninsula jutting out into Donegal Bay is the home of Donegal Golf Club. It's an enchanting and isolated setting for a big links course. The panoramic view across the bay is sensational, with the Bluestack Mountains providing a dramatic backdrop. Designed by Eddie Hackett the course was destined from the start for great things. Murvagh has been described as the Muirfield of Ireland, similar in terrain with two loops of nine holes, the first nine an outer loop and the second nine an inner loop running in the opposite direction. At nearly 7,300 yards (championship) or 7,000 yards (medal) this course is long. There is no doubt that Donegal or Murvagh is a very challenging links course and it should be up at the top of the must-play list for any serious golfer.

After breakfast, check out of Mill Park Hotel
Golf at Rosses Point (Co. Sligo) Golf Club

Travel time is approx. 55 mins

A centenarian with all the dignity and maturity of age, this is one of Ireland's great championship links. Described by Peter Alliss as "... a tremendous test for the highest quality player and great fun for the modern competitor", the club has hosted most of Ireland's major championships in its long and venerable history. Three extended beaches beneath the cliffs keep the Atlantic at bay to the west of the course, while towering Benbulben competes with the ocean for scenic splendour on the land side. A hidden gem of the northwest, Rosses Point is a "must play" if you plan to visit this part of Ireland.

Golf at Enniscrone Golf Club.

Travel time is approx. 1 hr 15 mins

This links on the shore of Killala Bay, is one of the many marvellous tests of golf which can be found in Ireland. The quality of the golf is matched by the surroundings, with the Ox Mountains close at hand. Killala Bay reaches out to the broad Atlantic within miles of sandy beaches surrounding the course. Some holes here have been redesigned and added to, while a whole series of holes have been laid out in the sand-dunes by Donald Steele, who has succeeded in preserving the feel of the original design by Eddie Hackett dating from 1974. Excursions into a lunar and quite spectacular landscape are much more adventurous, and your driving and ironwork here will need to be both daring and accurate.

Golf at Carne Golf Links.

Travel time is approx. 1 hr 40 mins

Carne Golf Links lies in magnificent unspoiled sand dunes overlooking Blacksod Bay and the wild Atlantic Ocean near Belmullet Co. Mayo in the west of Ireland. Carne was the last links course to be designed by the late Eddie Hackett and it is now believed by many who have played it to his greatest challenge. The course designer proudly claimed "I am thrilled with the way the dramatic Belmullet course has turned out, and again I reiterate my first opinion that ultimately there will be no better links golf course in the country or I doubt anywhere". The building of Carne has caused little disturbance to this wild and ancient landscape. Tees and greens occurred naturally and very little earth moving was involved in the course construction. There are some breathtaking views over the Atlantic and the legendary islands of Inis Gloire and Inis Geidhe.

Breakfast & Check out of Westport Inn Hotel

Golf at Connemara Golf Club

Situated on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean in a spectacular setting with the Twelve Bens Mountains in the background, this championship course is a challenge as good as any golfer would wish for. Established in 1973 the course has a popular reputation with big hitters, who relish the long meandering fairways. According to renowned golf writer, James W. Finnegan, the golf links of Connemara is "a perfect reflection of the austere beauty that is the world of Connemara".

Later that evening check into the Greenbrier Inn, Lahinch for your final 2 nights

Greenbrier Inn - Luxurious 3 star guesthouse, overlooking Lahinch Golf Links & the Atlantic Ocean. Situated 300 yards from Lahinch Village with its excellent restaurants, pubs & shops. all rooms are en suite with antique style pine furnishings, pressurised showers, orthopaedic beds, DD phones, multi-channel TV, tea/coffe making facilities. An excellent base from which to visit the Cliffs of Moher, play the famous Lahinch Golf Links or the spectacular Greg Norman designed Doonbeg Golf Links 18 miles away.

Golf at Lahinch Golf Club.

Founded in 1892, due to the cooperation between officials of the Limerick Golf Club and officers of the Black Watch Regiment then stationed in Limerick, Lahinch has taken its place as one of the premier links courses of Ireland. Of interest to golf historians is that the course was originally designed by the legendary 'Old' Tom Morris of St. Andrews, who enthused that, "I consider the links as fine a natural course as it has ever been my good fortune to play over". In 1928 the layout was revised by Dr. Alastair McKenzie who was so impressed that he declared, "Lahinch will make the finest and most popular course that I or anyone else ever constructed". Praise indeed from the man also responsible for Pebble Beach, Cypress Point and Augusta National. Lahinch, with its towering sand dunes, rolling greens, undulating fairways and fair share of blind shots, is the perfect natural golfing terrain a true links in the traditional meaning of the word.
